The 2018 Season

The 2018 season was a spectacular one for the AdamBots. The new game for this year, Power Up, was an arcade-themed game that involved alliances picking up cubes and placing them on a scale or a switch, earning points for each second the scale or switch leans in an alliance’s favor. Our robot, Rosalina, did an impressive job scoring a monumental amount of points. We won the competitions at Kettering and Escanaba while getting Chairman’s and Safety Awards along the way. After becoming semifinalists at Troy, we moved on to become Ford Division quarterfinalists and Entrepreneurship winners at the State Championship!

Kettering 1st District Event

We had an incredible time at our first event, the Kettering 1st District! A combination of robot performance and award recognition makes this the most successful overall AdamBots competition in our 20 year history! At the competition, we won the Chairman’s Award along with the Industrial Safety Award.

Escanaba District Event

Arriving Thursday and competing Friday through Saturday, we had a very successful trip. Our matches couldn’t have gone better. We won all twelve qualification matches and even ended ranked first! The elimination matches went similarly to the qualifications. We beat the 8th alliance, then the 4th to move onto the finals against the 2nd alliance. With match scores of 404-276 and 417-236, our alliance became the 2018 winners of the Escanaba District Event! By the end of the competition, we had a total of 147 district points and three blue banners. This places us as the #1 team out of the 508 teams in Michigan!

Troy District Event

This weekend, from March 31st to April 1st, the Adambots participated in the Troy District Competition in Troy Athens High school. We started out rough at this competition. On the first day of the competition, we won 3 out the 8 matches we played, leaving us ranked in 31st place, but after 3 more successful matches the next day, we shifted to 18th place! We won a tiebreaker in the quarterfinals, but we lost against the first seed in the semifinals.

Michigan State Championship

We managed to perfect our autonomous routine and gave the 1st seed alliance quite the challenge. Next, Governor Rick Snyder recognized the efforts of Rochester Community Schools and its teams towards implementing FIRST at all its levels. Finally, the AdamBots won the Entrepreneurship Award for the second state championship in a row! As this is our 12th Entrepreneurship Award, we rank amongst the top three teams in the world for this prestigious honor. Ending the Michigan season ranked 32nd, we qualified for the world championship in Detroit!

The AdamBots traveled to Detroit for the northern half of the world championship! At the competition, we met fierce competition, and we we became quarter finalists. Our alliance lost against the team that later won the World Championships in Detroit. We didn’t win any other awards, but we had a lot of fun meeting teams from around the world, and we learned a lot from this competition.
