OCCRA Championship

Written by AdamBot Student on November 19, 2017 in 2017 OCCRA

IMG_5376Our 2017 OCCRA season concluded with the Championship on November 18! In the four qualifier competitions, we scored a total of 495 points, landing us in rank six. At the Championship, we won our two matches with scores of 64-0 and 69-43, moving us up to the fifth rank! We were selected by the first seed, Benzene Bots, to join their alliance in elimination.

In the double elimination bracket, alliances can lose once and still have an opportunity to move on to the semifinals. Nonetheless, we won our first match against 302 and 2612 with a score of 58-18. We then played against 51 and 1, beating them 61-44. However, they won their next match, so we faced them again in the semifinals, which are best-of-three. The first match was a 62-39 victory, but problems soon followed. In the second match, our battery was unplugged, leading to a 39-52 loss. We came back with a 64-37 win and earned a spot in the finals against 33 and 123. Damage from the semifinals left our trash can intake and our electrical system needing work. With scoring difficult, we lost the two matches 35-47 and a close 49-55.

We’re proud of how far we got this year. For implementing a pneumatic arm with a flywheel to intake balls on tees, we earned the Technical Excellence Award! Also, we placed in the top five of the twenty teams, qualifying us for the Foundation Award. The winner will be announced at the OCCRA banquet on November 29.
