AdamBots Team 245

Saniyah Shaikh

Class of 2016

Year joined the team:
2014

Sub-Teams: Project Management (Chairman’s or Business Plan or Marketing), Digital Media, and Controls & Programming

What are 2 fun facts about you?

I have traveled to 9 countries on 3 different continents.
I collect coffee mugs, but I don’t drink coffee; I prefer hot chocolate.

Why did you join the AdamBots?

I remember seeing a demonstration of the AdamBots robot at a Homecoming assembly and thinking that it was amazing that students were able to build something so complex. I wanted to be a part of building a robot, and hopefully make new friends along the way.

What is your favorite team memory?

Presenting at the Meet the AdamBots presentation in 2015 and competing at Traverse City, where we won the Chairman’s Award and were champions.

What have you learned from being on the team?

I learned a lot about the effort that goes into managing the business side of our team, including professional interactions with sponsors and planning events to showcase our team. I have also learned to program in Java and to update the website. I learned a lot about teamwork and gracious professionalism from our amazing mentors and veteran students.

What is special about FIRST?

FIRST gives students a unique experience which allows us to apply the knowledge we gain from advanced courses in school. FIRST has direct, practical applications to real life, which I saw this past year when I interned at DELRAY Systems, an advanced manufacturing company that works with 3D printers. If I had not had experience with working on marketing campaigns, the website, and programming through robotics, I would never have received this opportunity.
