2014 Howell District Recap

Written by AdamBot Student on March 18, 2014 in 2014 FIRST

The Michigan FRC events have started rolling for the AdamBots with the Howell District, which we attended last week on Friday & Saturday.

Our performance at the event was clearly an improvement over the Hub City Regional, as we won 9 of our 12 matches. Of the 12 qualification matches ,we had nine on Friday. We were undefeated for the first six, then lost two in a row and won the last one. Our robot, now experienced after a “practice run” in Texas, performed at a higher level and was consistent in autonomous, scoring, assisting, and shooting over the truss, and we were able to win many matches, even holding first place for quick a long time. 3-15-14-246

On Friday we also presented for Chairman’s, and were given some helpful feedback from the judges. While we did not win the award, it was a great learning experience from which we can expand and improve our team in the future. We will be presenting at Troy in a few weeks as well. Congratulations also goes to our safety captain, Annie Zhao, who won the safety star award on Friday!

On Saturday, we won two out of our three qualification matches, putting us in the 4th place position. During the alliance selection, the 1st place team, 67, chose the 2nd place team, 469, which moved us up to the 3rd alliance captain. We asked teams 308 and 4776 to join us on our alliance and they accepted. In the quarter finals of the elimination matches, we won the first two matches against the 6th seed alliance, allowing us to advance to the semi finals. However, we lost the first two matches against the 2nd seed alliance, so they advanced to the finals. In the finals, they faced off against the 1st seed alliance consisting of teams 67, 469, and 3548. In the end, the 1st seed alliance triumphed.

We did not walk away with nothing, however, as we won the Entrepreneuership Award for the quality of our Business Plan and the presentation, image, and organization of our team. This was a great award to win, as our business planning team had been working  strenuously on the plan as well as our submission and pit presentation tool this year.
