Detroit District Recap

Written by Ryan Cesiel on March 26, 2011 in 2011 FIRST

Hanging a TubeThe AdamBots had another outstanding robotics weekend at the Detroit District event at Wayne State University the weekend of March 18, 2011.  We finished in third place after the qualification rounds with and 11-1 record.  Our alliances averaged 51 points per game against the average of 19 for the losing alliance.  Our only loss was against an alliance that included team 217, the Thunderchickens from Utica High School, who ended up as the champions.  Their only loss in the qualification rounds to an alliance that included us.  Our new, smaller and faster, minibot was very successful after working on the deployment method and strategy.

Team 245In the elimination rounds, team 51 (Wings of Fire from Pontiac High School) selected team 217 for the number one alliance and eventually selected team 3096 (Detroit Finney High School) for their final selection.  They only lost one match in the elimination rounds, and that was to our alliance in the first round of the finals.  We were the second seed alliance captain and select the fifth place team, 469 (International Academy form Bloomfield Hills) and the 19th place team 2832 (Livonia High School) as for our alliance.  We did lose one match prior to the finals because of a red card penalty by our alliance for touch a robot in their lane.  In the finals, we beat the winning alliance in the first round, but lost to them in the next two matches.

We also won the Imagery Award in honor of Jack Kamen and the website award.  Overall we came home with three trophies and a finalist medal.

We are currently ranked 18th in the state of Michigan and expect to move up the list after our next competition in Troy.  Thirteen of the 17 teams ranked above us have already competed in two district events.

We are now working on more adjustments to the robot, a new smaller faster minibot, and a working autonomous program.  Hopefully all the adjustments will be ready for our competition in Troy on April 1-2, 2011.
