Team Description

The Scouting Team exists on two levels, the information gathering level and the planning & strategy level. Nearly every team member is on the information gathering sub-level, with all team members present at competitions outside of the drive team splitting the work of individually (or with a parter) interviewing each team present at the competition. After completing this work on the Thursday (Pit Day) of a competition, the members will be assigned several robots to watch throughout the matches on Friday and Saturday. This allows team members to be productive even while sitting in the stands enjoying the matches.

The second part of the Scouting Team is the strategy and planning level. This includes one or two members of the information gathering teams and the drive team. These members (primarily the information gatherers) will organize and use the data collected by the gathering team. Meeting in the evenings on Friday and Saturday, the 6 or so members use the data to help with matchmaking, alliance selections, and team marketing (for the purpose of getting selected).

The end result is a useful, compact dataset consisting of team numbers and names, robot descriptions and strategies, standings, match results and performances, and a final ranking system to determine which teams we should select or market ourselves to. The Scouting Team is crucial to competition strategy - almost as much so as having a good robot with a good drive team.
