OCCRA Robotics
OCCRA stands for the Oakland County Competitive Robotics Association. This is made of about 30 High Schools in Oakland County, Michigan. Every fall we play a new game, building a new robot with similar dimensions to FIRST robots. Feel free to check out OCCRA in years past:

Focus
OCCRA is not a blind copy of FIRST for a different half of the year (Although part of the reason that OCCRA began was to give the students something to do during the other half of the year.) The main purpose of OCCRA, however, is to create a tournament in which adults do not build the robot at all. The designing, building, and all other aspects of the robot are for the students to do. This is to give them more responsibility in controlling their own projects from start to finish. Teams are also not permitted to have any kind of corporate sponsorship for OCCRA, thus it forces teams to work together and fundraise together. It also forces teams to learn to operate on a limited budget. Another regulation is a limit on "heavy machinery". Teams build these robots with rulers, hacksaws, and a cordless drill. "Heavier" machinery, such as a lathe, are not permitted for teams to use.
