OCCRA 2009: Bot Basketball

The Game and The Scoring
This season's game was Bot Basketball. The large robot had to score in basketball hoops that were 6 feet tall. A regular ball that was placed in the hoop from inside the paint earned 1 point. A regular ball that was placed in the hoop from outside the paint earned 3 points. If the robot picked up the bonus ball and scored it from inside the paint, it was worth 3 points and from the outside it was worth 9 points.
The VEX bot also had basketball hoops to score in, minature ones. In autonomous mode, if the robot scored, it was worth 3 points. If in the driver mode within the first 15 seconds, the robot scored again, it was worth 1 point for a regular ball and 3 points for the bonus ball. The VEX bot could continue to enter balls into the big bot game but points would not be counted.

How we Did
We Won the County Championship with our Alliance Partners, Team 51!!
With team 51, Pontiac Schools, the Adambots took the County Championship for 2009. Team 51 was the 1st seed and chose us as their partners. Great teamwork and patience got us through the final round which went to 5 matches. Our alliance took the first match, winning by 1 point. Second match, our alliance won but because of techincal difficulties had to be re-played. The alliance lost the third match and tied the fourth match. The fifth match brought us victory but again, only by 1 point. Our VEX bot scoring that extra point really helped us win.
The team also won the Technical Excellence Award. We won an award at all 5 of the OCCRA Competitions this year. With the Technical Excellence Award at Holly we also won the following: Walled Lake - Beautiful Bot Award, Birmingham Seaholm - Quality Award, Royal Oak - VEX Award, Waterford Kettering - Spirit of the Competition Award.
