The Field
This year's game is played on a 27 by 54 foot field known as the FIELD. The FIELD is covered in a carpet material. The field is bounded by a set of guardrails, with alliance stations at each end. Gates are placed along the perimeter of the field, allowing teams to enter and exit the field in safe fashion.
Two bumps will divide the field into three sections and will stretch from the middle tower to the outer guardrail. These sections include the "RED ZONE", "MIDZONE", and "BLUE ZONE". These bumps are specially modified, so a robot with the capabilities of maneuvering over them will be able to freely pass between the zones.
A TOWER is located in the middle of each bump. These towers are used for hanging and suspension, which are two of the three ways to score in BREAKAWAY. Below the tower is the TUNNEL, which like the bumps, are modified where only robots designed with certain capabilities will be able to go through.
The GOALS are located at the corners of the field, totaling in two for each team. Players will be able to use their robot to "kick" the soccer balls into each goal.
Autonomous Period
During the autonomous period, the robot completely relies on programming to navigate and score. The autonomous period lasts 15 seconds.
Teleoperated Period
The teleoperated period is the 2 minute period in which DRIVERS operate the robot.
Game Pieces
The game piece is a soccer ball with a circumference of 27-28 inches and will approximately weigh 14-16 ounces. In a concise statement, they are regular size 5 soccer balls which are typically used by many teen and adult soccer players.
Scoring
- 1 Point for every goal scored.
- 2 Points for every robot hanging.
- 3 Points for every robot suspended.
