AutoCAD Team
The AutoCAD Team utilizes Autodesk software in order to create 3D representations of the robot. We basically take the Design Team's final drawing and make a virtual 3D mock-up of what the robot hopefully should look like.
About The Software
- For 23 years, Autodesk has been revolutionizing software into what we use today. Starting with AutoCAD, they introduced people to drafting on a computer (hence the term Computer Aided Drafting, or CAD). The continuous spread of the AutoCAD programs were the starting footprints of a company that drives innovative design. AutoCAD also made it possible for other Autodesk software (including Inventor) to be used in the big industries like building & manufacturing and media & entertainment.
- For the past 13 years, Autodesk has been one of the key sponsors of FIRST. Helping teams prepare for the competitions ahead, Autodesk has donated over $8 million worth of their software each year. Autodesk provides each team with copies of Autodesk Design Academy, featuring Autodesk Inventor® Series 3D design software and Autodesk 3ds Max® (used by the Animation Team), to help the teams prepare for the competitions, as well as the two(2) Autodesk Awards of Excellence. The two(2) Awards of Excellence that Autodesk provides are the Autodesk Inventor Award and the Autodesk Visualization Award.
- You can view their video on either Windows Media Player or QuickTime.
FIRST 2009
- During the FIRST 2009 season, the AutoCAD team played an important role in the design process. When the overall design of the robot had been decided, Eduardo Cerame worked with Larry Garstick to create a basic 2D design of the frame. This was then passed on to Mr. Hildebrandt who refined and finalized the design. From this design, full scale templates were printed and used to build the robot. This design was also used by the rest of the AutoCAD team to build the 3D Inventor model which can be seen below.
